Meet the newest addition to the collection of Barbie career dolls: A Judge

Mattel just revealed its newest addition to the collection of Barbie career dolls: A Judge. With over 200 career dolls, this year is intended to “inspire girls to explore judicial careers with the hopes that one day they will sit on the bench and make important decisions that can change the world for the better,” according to Barbie’s statement.

The doll comes with a gavel and a round block that assists Barbie in making court decisions. They are dressed in a customary black robe with a floral dress inside. Each doll also has a variety of skin tones and hairstyles that you can choose from.

Lisa McKnight, the global head of Barbie, decided to put a judge as one of Barbie’s careers after learning that “only 33 percent of sitting U.S. judges are females.” Barbie has also partnered with GoFundMe to support women empowerment projects like She’s the First, She Should Run, and Step Up. This partnership is also in support of the upcoming “International Day of the Girl.”

Aside from that, the new Barbie doll is part of the Barbie Dream Gap Project, a “multi-year global initiative to raise awareness around limiting factors that prevent girls from reaching their full potential.”

Barbie also released a new line of gender-fluid dolls two weeks ago, a doll line that encourages inclusivity. It “keeps labels out and invite everyone in.”
