If you don’t know about the Barretto family feud, you’re either too young to remember or you just didn’t see much of it on TV. But with the rise of social media, it’s almost impossible to not have at least once read or hear about their very public spats.
According to several timelines chronicling the prolific family’s feud, these fights have been going on for 15 years and they’re not just limited to the Barretto sisters Gretchen, Marjorie, and Claudine. Their other siblings, parents, and some nieces and nephews were also involved in these fights.
They’ve argued in various places and platforms so many times that there’s enough material for a Kardashian-esque reality show. So we made a rundown of some of the most controversial Barretto fights we’ve witnessed on our TV and phone screens.

At Miguel Barretto’s wake (2019)
The patriarch of the Barretto family Miguel passed away last week due to a heart attack. The siblings had a reunion at the wake, but it wasn’t a happy one. It started with a fight between Gretchen and Marjorie, which was reportedly stopped by—and we’re not joking—Pres. Rodrigo Duterte and the Presidential Security Group (PSG).
Gretchen told ABS-CBN News that her sister “had a nervous breakdown.” She also shared videos where you can hear shouting and a scuffle happening at the funeral home.
There are also reports that Gretchen and her niece Nicole had a confrontation. According to ABS-CBN News and screenshots posted on Gretchen’s Instagram Stories, Nicole was upset because her aunt allegedly stole her ex-boyfriend, businessman Atong Ang.
A day after the Gretchen-Marjorie fight, Claudine also allegedly got into a fight with Marjorie. Claudine was later brought to a hospital after experiencing a bout of dizziness and incurring injuries on her hand. She posted a cryptic Instagram post directed at Marjorie shortly after.
Instagram Live (2019)
Gretchen and Claudine called out their niece Dani Barretto for not inviting her estranged father, Kier Legaspi to her wedding. They also didn’t like Dani’s vlog where she said her mom, Marjorie raised her alone. “Minahal ko si Dani. I thought I was her second mother and when she called me mama, sineryoso ko iyon. So parang nung sinabi niya na, ‘My mama was the only one there for me, who raised me,’ ano ako? Multo?” (I loved Dani. I thought I was her second mother and when she called me mama, I took it seriously. So when she said, ‘My mama was the only one there for me, who raised me,’ what was I, then? A ghost?)
In court (2013 to 2014)
When Claudine filed several cases against ex-husband Raymart Santiago, she included her siblings in an affidavit to testify against his abusive ways. However, Gretchen, Marjorie, and their brother JJ sided with Raymart over claims that Claudine faced issues of domestic violence and substance abuse.
Because of this, Gretchen told the media in 2013 that their father allegedly threatened to shoot her, Marjorie, and JJ for what they did.
In a 2014 interview with Boy Abunda, Gretchen said they spoke against their sister because they knew Claudine was unwell. She claimed they were just thinking about the kids and that Claudine needed to get help.
On a newspaper column (2013)
Barretto matriarch Inday sent an open letter to a local newspaper where she called out Gretchen for lying. She accused her daughter of destroying Claudine’s career, as well as their family name. “For the longest time now and all these years you did nothing but make it your favorite pastime to play with the lives of my family, the family you are ashamed to own, in spite of the fact that I brought you all up well, humble and human!”
Over the phone (2010)
Gretchen said on “The Buzz” that she and Claudine weren’t on speaking terms. She didn’t know why at the time, but Claudine allegedly told her over the phone that they needed to talk about things that have been bothering her. This also came after the media pit the two actresses against each other because their shows premiered almost at the same time.

Today, the fights have continued and escalated on social media with Gretchen, Marjorie, and Claudine posting cryptic quotes and lengthy statements directed at each other. Barretto children like Julia, Dani, and Nicole were also caught in the crossfire with multiple “exposés,” mostly done by Gretchen via Instagram Stories.
But if you’re going to ask us what the pettiest Barretto move was, it’d probably be when Marjorie and Gretchen changed their Instagram bios to “Ghost writer” and “GHOST BUSTER,” respectively.
When will the feud ever end?
