Here’s everything you need to know about ice cube serums

We’re welcoming 2020 with a new beauty trick and the best part is it will not cost you that much. Apparently, skincare enthusiasts found that freezing skincare products into ice cubes have interesting benefits for the face. I’m sure most of you have already tried stashing some of your creams in the fridge, as it is said to help constrict blood vessels and reduce late-night puffy bags. But freezing them into ice cubes? It never crossed my mind.

How does it work?

Some brands have created their own ice cube versions, and one of the most popular is the Anna Semonin Express Radiance Ice Cube, jam-packed full of serum that you put in the freezer until they become frozen. As of now, it’s available only in Europe but they offer free delivery worldwide.

You may also opt to DIY, where you can infuse your ice cubes with a mixture of teas and a few drops of essential oils. But, of course, you have to check first which tea works for your skin. Teas have different benefits, but our pick is obviously green tea, as it is loaded with antioxidants that shield our skin from damage. For the oils, we recommend rosehip oil as it’s the best option for hydrating your dry, itchy skin.

But if you’re looking for an ingredient that will firm your skin, Likely suggests using frozen whole milk to help regenerate skin cells. “Whole milk contains Vitamin A and lactic acid, which helps to exfoliate your skin from the inside out.”

After choosing which ingredients you’d like to mix, put them in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to an hour. Once finished, rub it all over your face and feel the serum get drenched into your skin. Repeat until the cube melts.

What are the benefits?

Ice cubes have become a secret weapon that top facialists and makeup artists use. Celebrity facialist Ole Henriksen confirms this: “They dramatically improve circulation in the skin for that healthy glow we all want,” he says. For application and better results, Ole suggests to wrap an ice cube in a thin cotton handkerchief and massage it across the skin.

It is also said to be an effective eye treatment. “Vogue” suggests using a cold compress made out of cotton and chamomile tea and rest it on your eyes for a few minutes. “The drainage of excess fluid will dramatically improve the appearance of tired-looking under-eyes.”

Rubbing ice cubes on your face can also soothe pimples, inflammation and increases blood circulation in your skin. What more if you pair it with powerful ingredients like serums and teas?
