It’s seems like the theme of Mariah Carey’s life lately is “better late than never.” Last December, her song “All I Want For Christmas” finally topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart 25 years after its release. Today, Jan. 17, Carey has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
It’s been a long time coming, TBH. You might just know Carey as a singer who’s popular for her high notes and whistle tones. But did you know that she writes most of her songs? Carey actually wrote or co-wrote 18 of her 19 number one hits, including “Dreamlover,” “Always Be My Baby,” and “Fantasy.”
In the past, Carey has expressed her frustration for not receiving any recognition for her songwriting. She told Rolling Stones in 2018, “Oftentimes people put that as a secondary thing and for me it’s always at the top of the gifts I could be so thankful to have.”
After finding out about her hall of fame induction, Carey celebrated with her kids Moroccan Cannon and Monroe Cannon. She also tweeted, “This is truly one of the greatest honors of my career. I’m so proud and humbled to be in the company of such legendary songwriters—both previously inducted as well as the incredible class of 2020.”
