How did Harvey Weinstein get tested for COVID-19 in prison?

Convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein, who is serving his 23-year sentence, has reportedly tested positive for coronavirus and is now isolated at the Wende Correctional Facility in Western New York City.

This is following the news of New York City having the most number of  coronavirus cases in jails across the United States, with over 38 people testing positive around the Rikers Island complex.

Prior to these reports, Daily Mail UK said that Weinstein has told the prison staff he believed he had the virus when he entered the facility last Wednesday, Mar. 18.

The correctional facility was only meant to be a temporary stop before he was due for evaluation regarding which state prison would meet his “security, medical, mental health and other needs.”

There are some Twitter users questioning how Weinstein was able to get tested right away.

In the States, there is a shortage of test kits which has hindered nationwide testing. According to Eric Bank of the Association of Public Health Laboratories, “There are ‘acute, serious shortages across the board’ for supplies needed to do the tests.”
