Aside from the Philippines, many other countries are encouraging social distancing. The music and events industry are some of those that are greatly affected by it, since concerts and festivals have been canceled. This has caused some artists to struggle with their daily expenses. After posting her situation on Tumblr, a New York-based freelance music photographer named Holly Turner received $3,000 donated by Taylor Swift so she could pay her for her rent.
Along with the money, Swift left a message saying, “Holly, you’ve always been there for me. I want to be there for you right now. I hope this helps. Love, Taylor.”
In her Tumblr post, Turner revealed that as a freelance touring music photographer, she relies on the industries mentioned above. Since the pandemic started breaking out in the United States in March, all her gigs got cancelled.
According to Quartz, the state of New York has at least 15, 168 cases of COVID-19 (9,045 cases of which are in New York City). There are reports about a proposal for a lockdown to be implemented in the city, but Turner noted that stores are already closed. This is why she can’t find another job in the meantime.
Apart from Swift, a lot of influential people around the world have been donating their money and resources to aid in addressing the pandemic. In the Philippines, we see stars like Angel Locsin donating their on-set tents for hospitals to convert into isolation units. We’re hoping this inspires their fans to follow suit and help in solving the issue at hand.
