Hello, people still listening to “One Thing” in 2020, have I got sorta-kinda-maybe news for you: there’s a chance that One Direction will be reuniting soon. At least, for their ten-year anniversary this year, five years after they last stopped performing together.
First, Liam Payne alluded to having something in the works for the band. “We’ve got a ten-year anniversary coming up so we’ve all been speaking together a lot over the last few weeks which has been really nice,” he said, adding, “At the moment I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say.” (Unfortunately, he chose to say that in an interview with The Sun, a British tabloid, so make what you will of that.)
Fans have pointed out another thing that might mean a reunion is coming soon. Early this year, the band’s website was “quietly reactivated and updated with a 2020 copyright.”
Citing an unnamed source, Entertainment Tonight seemed to confirm that at least something is brewing. “The members of One Direction are planning on doing something for their 10-year anniversary in July, but haven’t confirmed what that is yet. The guys started talking more frequently recently and have worked on putting a lot of things behind them.”
“The guys want to do something for their fans,” the source added.
Recently, after an interviewer from Sirius XM’s Hits 1 suggested to Styles that he and his old band mates should hop on to Zoom to have a little reunion concert to bring joy to fans during the quarantine, Styles replied, “I don’t know if that’s the reunion that we have in mind.”
With no official announcements up, this is still just pure conjecture, but it does seem that there are plans for, well, something. Fingers crossed for a full blown reunion?
