Watch the 65-year romance and coming out story of two women on ‘A Secret Love’

Ryan Murphy is giving us another LGBTQ+ film to cry about and cheer for. Netflix released the trailer for an upcoming documentary called “A Secret Love.” It follows the lives of Terry Donahue and Pat Henschel, two women who have been in a secret relationship for 65 years. For the preview, we get a peek at the reaction of their families when the couple decided to come out and share their love story.

They first met in 1947 and they’ve been inseparable since. At the time though, Donahue was playing for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League—a group that strictly abided the unspoken rule of “Play like a man, look like a lady.” She spoke about some of the difficulties she faced in Britni de la Cretaz’s “The Hidden Queer History Behind ‘A League of Their Own.'” It chronicled the accounts of queer women in baseball who were forced to hide their identities.

Now, we’ll be getting a deeper dive from the documentary. Director Christopher Bolan is actually Donahue’s great-nephew to whom the couple came out in 2009. In the trailer, we hear him compliment his great aunt for being a rule-breaker all her life. “No regrets. I’d do it all over again,” she replies.

We’re not only getting insights from the early years of their relationship, “A Secret Love” will also touch on the set of challenges they faced coming out late in their lives. It appears to be a touching tribute to the late Donahue who passed away last year due to Parkinson’s disease.

As part of a sweet deal (11 Netflix Originals!) with the streaming giant, Murphy produced this documentary with Blumhouse Productions, the company which backed “Get Out.” It is scheduled to premiere on Apr. 29. Have your tissues at the ready when you stream it on Netflix
