Stream the OG ‘Cats’ for free to forget about the cringey film

“Cats” the movie fueled many nightmares when it premiered last year. But if you’re still struggling to understand what it’s about and whether Jellicle Cats are actually cult members or not, you can watch Andrew Lloyd Webber’s original musical on YouTube from May 15 to 17.

According to WhatsOnStage, “Cats” can be streamed for 48 hours via the The Shows Must Go On! YouTube channel, which also streamed Webber’s other plays like “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

Since premiering on the West End stage in 1981, “Cats” has become one of the most popular musicals in the world, even breaking the record for longest-running show of all time (1982 to 2000). The 2019 film may have flopped and lost approximately $100 million in the box office, but there are still people who swear by the magic of the Broadway musical.

Look on the bright side: At least you don’t have to relive the film’s flawed visual effects and seeing Idris Elba in CGI cat form. (We love you Idris, but no.)
