In a statement posted originally on their website, YG Entertainment recently shared Blackpink’s plans and scheduled releases for the year. Previous news have pointed to a June comeback but the statement confirms that the release of the group’s first official album will be in September instead.
According to the statement, the group has already finished recording all 10 tracks of the full album, the group’s first after almost four years in the industry.
There will be a pre-release single as well as a music video and a choreography video to be released in June. The second single will be released in a “special format” in either July or August.
The schedule of releases will hopefully be an avenue for BLINKS to see more of Blackpink and for the group to also provide more performances for fans who have been supportive of them throughout their hiatus. The entertainment company also teased some global projects with Universal Music, to further propel and take advantage of Blackpink’s already amazing start at the global market.
For now, fans can look forward to Blackpink and Lady Gaga’s Chromatica collaboration, “Sour Candy,” to be released this coming May 29.
The members of the group have been very active on social media for the past few weeks, reassuring the fans that preparation for the next album is underway.
However, #YG_WORST_COMPANY trended on Twitter right after the statement from YG was released. Many fans feel that it might be better for the group if the full album will be released this coming June with a repackaged version released in September.
Fans also pointed out that it has taken the widely popular girl group four years to debut their first album, while their boy group label mates have been given full-length albums right off the bat. Many also wonder why Blackpink has been limited in their creative pursuits, especially when so many mainstream pop artists want to collaborate with thhem. Other YG artists constantly guest in reality shows or are able to dabble in creative pursuits like producing their own documentaries, but the endeavors of the Blackpink members, like Lisa’s dance videos or Rosé’s covers, are hardly given any promotion.
Much of the backlash also comes from the fact that Blackpink’s 2019 plans originally set the full album release at the beginning of the year but was initially pushed back to June and now to September. The solos of each member, originally promised to be released last year, have also yet to see the light of day.
