‘Sour Candy’ is here and we totally didn’t see it coming

While the world anticipates the drop of Chromatica on May 29, Lady Gaga surprised us by dropping her much awaited song with Blackpink named “Sour Candy” a few minutes ago. Blinks have been hyping the group’s new song with Gaga and trended the hashtag #GAGAPINK in support of the song.

In an interview with Japanese media outlet tvgroove, Gaga shared how she first invited Blackpink into the project and expressed the enthusiasm all parties felt over it.

“I wanted to support powerful women such as Blackpink, and they felt the same,” she said. “I got excited while hearing them interpret the song in Korean. I told them that their part is very creative and fun. (…) Blackpink are beautiful young women, and they’re very talented. Through this collaboration, I felt proud as if I’d become Blackpink’s fifth member.”

Following the releases of power anthems “Stupid Love” and “Rain On Me,” fans have noticed Gaga return to her roots by taking on a 90’s dance pop sound. The Blackpink duet follows suit which so far has received a lot of positive reviews (save for some wanting the track to be longer).

Taking everyone by surprise, Gaga released the track today, just a few days ahead of the album drop. Prior to the release, snippets of the song were posted earlier today (BloodPop, one of Chromatica’s producers, posted a video with the song on his Instagram), while unofficial leaks of the full song from unknown sources started spreading, leading blinks and little monsters to band together against the leaks.

“Sour Candy” is now available for streaming.
