Frankie Pangilinan, or Kakie for the people of Twitter, is the poster child for Gen-Z celebrities who are stepping up in using their platform to talk politics and amplify the voices of the marginalized. Today, she joins former congressman and National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP) founding chair Atty. Erin Tañada in an online lecture on anti-terrorism and human rights hosted by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Office of the Student Regent. She represents her father, Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan.
The livestream will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Frankie and Atty. Tañada will each be given upwards of 20 minutes to discuss the details of the Anti-Terrorism bill and its authorship and how, upon implementation, it may be abused to punish critics of the government. Frankie wrote in a tweet that while she’s not an expert and “just a nosy child who steals her father’s work files,” she is eager to do her part and learn.
She is known for posting screenshots of her conversations with family members. She doesn’t shy away from political discussions. Back in March, she shared her texts with her father when the Bayanihan as One Act was approved.
Yesterday, Jun. 4, Frankie posted another series of texts between her and Sen. Pangilinan. She was asking for permission to join the #JunkTerrorBill indignation rally held in University of the Philippines Diliman. While she wasn’t able to join the protest, she’s still finding ways to do her part. “I love you all so much and I wish I could join you in the protest,” she said at the end of her talk.
