Award-winning film “Sila-sila” can be streamed on iWant soon

Happy pride, everyone: Award-winning film “Sila-sila” will soon be available to stream on iWant.

Directed and starred by gay men, “Sila-sila” is an intimate look into modern queer relationships, touching on things like ghosting and chosen families. It’s a queer rom-com, which in itself is so refreshing—much of Philippine gay cinema is made up of tragic love stories or depictions of happy queer people without any love interests.

“The film is really about connections, kung paano ka nakakabuo ng relasyon. Hindi lang doon sa mga minamahal mo kundi doon sa mga kaibigan mo,” director Giancarlo Abrahan said about the film at the 2019 Cinema One Originals Festival as he and the cast accepted the Best Picture award on stage. Aside from Best Picture, the film also won the Audience Choice and Best Screenplay awards.

Abrahan also shared that he dedicated the film to the LGBTQ+ community to let them know that they’re seen. “Napakasaya ko noong nabasa ko yung isang tweet, sabi doon sa isang tweet, ‘Wow, I feel seen.’ So andito kami lahat ngayon nakatayo sa harap niyo. Baklang direktor, baklang manunulat, baklang mga aktor. We are seen,” he said.
