Justin Bieber denied the allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman last March 2014, after a series of now-deleted Tweets became viral.
The tweets came from a woman who identified herself as Danielle who claimed that she met Bieber at a music event in Austin, Texas when she was 21. Danielle said that on March 9, the singer (who was 20 at that time), invited her and her friends to the Four Seasons Hotel where he assaulted her in a separate room.
According to a report by The Guardian, Alison Kaye, Bieber’s representative and the general manager of Scooter Braun’s SB Projects, denied these allegations saying that it was factually impossible.
Bieber followed up with a set of his own tweets that provided photos and receipts of his stay in an AirBnb on the date Danielle claimed the assault happened. He also said that he was staying at the Westin hotel, not the Four Seasons. He mentioned that he was with his then-girlfriend, Selena Gomez the whole time that the alleged sexual assault happened.
“Rumors are rumors but sexual abuse is something I don’t take lightly,” he explained on Twitter. “I wanted to speak out right away but out of respect to so many victims who deal with these issues daily I wanted to make sure I gathered the facts before I made any statement.”
He shared that he plans to take action regarding the allegations. His final tweet read, “Every claim of sexual abuse should be taken very seriously and this is why my response was needed. However, this story is factually impossible and that is why I will be working with Twitter and authorities to take legal action.”
Aside from Justin Bieber, celebrities like Cole Sprouse and Ansel Elgort were also accused of sexual assault and abuse over the weekend. The truth regarding all of these allegations have not yet come to light, however, people online are reminding others to not be so easily dismissive of assault and abuse victims speaking up.
