Ready your tissues: Samantha Lee’s upcoming film is about LDR

Samantha Lee just teased her next project with Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Latin-American actor Ella Lentini called “Until It’s Safe.” According to Lee’s Instagram post, the film is coming soon and will be about longing.

If you’re not familiar with Lentini, she’s an actor/writer/filmmaker based in New York City. Despite her career revolving around indie productions, she appeared in an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” which a lot have probably seen when the show was at the height of its popularity.

Lee is famous for advocating better representation of women and the LGBTQ+ community in the local film industry. Back in 2016, she and Curtis-Smith worked together in “Baka Bukas,” where the latter starred as the lead with Louise de los Reyes. The film revolves around a closet lesbian who starts to realize her feelings for her best friend. An entry to the 2016 Cinema One Originals Festival, “Baka Bukas” bagged the Best Actress and Best Sound awards. The film was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Production Design.

Lee also directed “Billie & Emma,” a story of a pregnant teenager falling in love with the new girl in school.  It won the Gender Sensitivity Award at the QCinema International Film Festival, along with being nominated for Best Director, Best Picture and more.

Seeing as both Lee and Curtis-Smith are based in Manila while Lentini is based in NYC, it’s exciting to see how a video call-reliant narrative ends. What do you think?
