NUSP wants the government to listen to the five student demands now

Members of the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP), along with other students, teachers and parents, gather at the Department of Education national office to plead for mass testing and concrete plans for education amid the pandemic. This is to ensure that students enjoy their right to safe and quality education.

The group also said that these issues are far more important than the implementation of the anti-terror law. Other protesting groups also demanded a sufficient budget for the education sector.

Ever since blended learning was introduced as a solution to the threats posed by the pandemic to the education sector, underprivileged students have gone through extreme lengths to buy the equipment they’ll need for it. Recently, a student went viral after a report that he turned to selling nude photos of himself to buy mobile data and a decent laptop for his class

Because of this, students nationwide, especially NUSP members, have aired their concerns and criticized the “rotten” system of the government. Among the suggested courses of action is to enhance mass testing to kickstart the road back to physical classes.

According to their Facebook page, NUSP has five student demands. These are to suspend online classes and ensure inclusive educational alternative, the stop on tuition free increase, sustenance of both teaching and non-teaching staff, student representation and the stop of repressive policies.
