Remember going out-of-town and having karaoke all-nighters with the barkada? It’s missing-my-friends o’clock and I hate how multiple crying emojis in the group chat don’t capture how much I’m agonizing over not being able to hang out offline. Enter staple Filipino rock band The Itchyworms whose songs have been the soundtrack of our youth.
For all The Itchyworms fans out there, you can now add more tracks to that OPM playlist (pretty sure we all have one) with songs like “Akin Ka Na Lang” and “Penge Naman Ako N’yan” on it. On Aug. 17, the band will be hosting a virtual album launch for their fifth album “Waiting For The End To Start.”
From 7:30 p.m. onwards, you can join the band on their Facebook page for an online listening and live commentary party where they’ll be debuting a couple of songs from the 9-track album. “Waiting For The End To Start” will also be available on digital platforms worldwide on the same day.
The album was conceptualized and recorded while the members were confined to their respective homes under quarantine. The songs that were written reflect their individual and collective experiences during the period. The band also promises music born out of a more adventurous and relentless approach in terms of production and songwriting.
Lead guitarist and back-up vocalist Chino Singson shares, “Like any collection of music, it is a record of its time: A snapshot of the artist’s reaction to his or her circumstances. But it’s a concept album in that our aim was to create art in the midst of a pandemic, to capture our emotions in the music we record, even with the limited recording gear we have at home. So you’ll hear amp buzz and imperfect vocals, but for me that’s part of the spirit of true rock.”
So gather the old barkada for a fun night of music with the boys. Maybe you could even strike a conversation with an old flame about it. In 2020, we’re just going for it.
