Nobody asked for a live-action ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ remake but here we are

You read that right, The CW is reportedly developing a live-action remake of our fave crime-fighting trio but not like you’ve seen them before. According to a report by Variety, the remake will feature Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup as “disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?” Yup, we’re just as surprised as you are.

The live-action remake is reportedly being written and co-executive produced by “Juno” screenwriter Diablo Cody and Warner Bros. Television’s Heather Regnier alongside Berlanti Productions’ Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden. The CW and Berlanti are known for their television adaptations of the DC Universe ranging from The Flash to Batwoman while also being credited for their more mature-themed remakes of beloved franchises like “Riverdale” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” from Archie Comics.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen a new look for the original “Powerpuff Girls” series. There was an anime remake “Powerpuff Girls Z” in 2006 and a Cartoon Network reboot in 2016. With much of the live-action remake still remaining a mystery, we have so many questions. Will the story still be set in Townsville? What would their archenemies Mojo Jojo and HIM look like and will they even be part of the series? And will the feisty Buttercup be harboring some teenage angst à la DC’s Nightwing? (What? A lot of us are thinking it.)
