Kathniel under one roof? Thank ‘The House Arrest of Us’

Ever since actress Karla Estrada tweeted that photo of wedding invitations with its cryptic caption, KathNiel fans have been speculating (or ardently hoping, to be more accurate) that she’s teasing an upcoming quarantine wedding. It’s not so far-fetched with all the celebrity couples who’ve been tying the knot these past few months.

Here’s the scoop: In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN’s MJ Felipe, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo announced that they’re getting married…on their upcoming digital movie series “The House Arrest of Us.”

You might be wondering whether it’s a sequel or a prequel to their 2018 movie “The Hows of Us.” It’s actually neither. Bernardo clarified that, while it’s also a family-oriented romcom, the 13-part series isn’t related to movie’s main characters George and Primo. Instead, it follows the story of two individuals who were locked down under one roof along with their families.

Joining them in the series are Ruffa Gutierrez, Gardo Versoza, Dennis Padilla and Herbert Bautista among others. Bernardo shared that they’re having a lot of fun working with the cast. “On and off cam riot. As in. Pero ang interesting nya kasi magkakaiba yung personalities namin lahat,” she told ABS-CBN.

In the interview, the couple also shared that shooting their first project under quarantine had its challenges. “Kakaiba yung experience na nandito kami sa parang village-style subdivision,” Padilla divulged. “Wala ring pwedeng lumabas. Wala ring pwedeng pumasok. Kami-kami lang din yung nandito.”

Padilla explained that their reason behind working on this project is to bring joy to their fans. “Ngayon sa panahon natin na ang daming binibigay na pagsubok at problema, gusto nating magbigay ng ngiti,” he said.

However, it’s not all work and no play. Bernardo revealed that they take a break every fifth day of shooting. Sometimes, she takes it upon herself to cook meals which she shares with the crew. (She even showed snippets of these on her Instagram stories.) She likens the experience to being in one barangay and having the team as her neighbors.

You can start streaming “The House Arrest of Us” on KTX.PH on Oct. 24 or on iWant TFC on Oct. 25. The episodes will air every Saturday at 2 p.m. You can also purchase bonus features that will give you access to exclusive clips from the set and online fan conventions for P499.

If that’s not enough to get you excited, this will also mark the acting debut of one of Bernardo’s pet dogs. Which one? You’ll have to watch and find out.
