We’ve reached the end of the year and, idk about y’all, but it was a *lot* to take in. If you’re waiting for your sun to shine real soon, Pantone’s 2021 Color of the Year might help you manifest just that.
On Dec. 10, the Pantone Color Institute revealed that the combination of its two independent hues Ultimate Gray and Illuminating is its official colors of the year for 2021. The global color authority chose two shades this year to conjoin “deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the optimistic promise of a sunshine-filled day.”
“The selection of two independent colors highlight how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting, conveying the idea that it’s not about one color or one person, it’s about more than one. The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude,” Pantone’s executive director Leatrice Eiseman wrote on the color authority’s website. “Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted, this is essential to the human spirit.”
Last year, Pantone chose Classic Blue for 2020 and described it as a “timeless and enduring hue, elegant in its simplicity” that “highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation from which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.” I may not know how your year so far matches with Classic Blue, but I’m sure hoping that Pantone’s decision on Ultimate Gray and Illuminating will set the tone for a better year ahead.
