‘Space Sweepers’ might be the hotter older sister of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

On Feb. 5, Netflix is releasing a new Korean sci-fi film that stars Song Joong-ki and Kim Tae-ri. “Space Sweepers” tells the story of a genius space pilot, a mysterious ex-space pirate, a spaceship engineer, and a reprogrammed military robot coming together to look after (well, that’s one way of putting it) a 7-year old humanlike robot on the wanted list.

Set in 2099, the trailer gives off a vibe kind of similar to “Guardians of the Galaxy.” (Though if I’m being honest, this looks more badass.) The characters, who form a unit of “space sweepers,” all seem to have a strong personality and are from different backgrounds. In one of their missions to clear space debris, they found what appeared to be a 7-year old girl. They eventually find out that the kid is a humanlike robot that’s supposed to be a highly dangerous weapon. Instead of just handing it over to authorities, the space sweepers decide to demand ransom in exchange.

You might remember Song Joong-ki from “Descendants of the Sun.” He played Big Boss, the strong and courageous leader of South Korea’s Special Forces Alpha team. Given this, I’m pretty sure he’s more than capable of delivering some of the best action scenes on “Space Sweepers.”
