Hollywood reboots are upon us again.
Disney Plus is currently developing a “Cheaper by the Dozen” reboot, and Zach Braff has just been cast as one of the leads alongside Gabrielle Union.
The original is a 2003 movie starring Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt as hapless parents to a large brood of 12, played by a cast of early 2000s teen icons (Hilary Duff, Piper Perabo, among others). That too was a reboot of a 1950 film of the same name, which was an adaptation of an autobiography (also of the same name) written by two siblings about growing up in a brood of 12.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming remake will center “on a multiracial, blended family of 12, navigating a hectic home life while managing their family business.”
“Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris co-wrote the script and is producing the project. It will be directed by Gail Lerner, “Black-ish” producer and writer.
The reboot was originally announced in 2019, with shooting scheduled for July 2020. As in other Disney projects, COVID-19 changed that plan.
