You heard that right! “American Horror Story” resident Lily Rabe has been cast as the lead alongside the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Scarlet Witch and star of “WandaVision,” Elizabeth Olsen, in the HBO Max series “Love and Death.”
Based on a true story, Rabe will play the church-going Betty Gore who was murdered by her friend, Olsen’s Candy Montgomery, in a twisted story full of lies and secrets. The murder of Betty Gore, which happened in 1979 in a small town in Texas, is documented in the book “Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs,” as well as in a collection of articles from Texas Monthly titled “Love and Death In Silicon Prairie.”
In a statement, Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max, shared that “[‘Love and Death’] is a gripping story about the frustrations and desires of two women in a small town that culminates in a terrible act of violence.”
Best known for her television work, “Love and Death” marks Rabe’s return to an HBO series after working with writer and creator David E. Kelley in last year’s hit “The Undoing.” Kelley will also serve as executive producer with long-time collaborator Nicole Kidman. The two of them previously collaborated on melodrama “Big Little Lies” and the aforementioned psychological thriller “The Undoing.” Consider it safe to assume that “Love and Death” is right up their alley!
While the series is still in the process of pre-production, Rabe and Olsen will be joined by actors Jesse Plemons (“Black Mirror”) and Patrick Fugit (“Outcast”) who will play their respective husbands. You can also catch Rabe on the upcoming tenth season of “American Horror Story: Double Feature,” which will be featuring two stories in one season for the very first time. And yes, it’s the one written by Ryan Murphy.
