Want to have a fun time with like-minded people and conspire against the patriarchy? Time’s Up Ateneo is having a feminist community night on Oct. 23 to celebrate their second anniversary.
What’s a feminist community night? Jasmine Cruz of Time’s Up Ateneo told Preen: “We call our event a feminist community night because the activities are themed around feminism. The songs and the poems chosen for the performances all talk about feminist issues or imagining a feminist world.”
The event theme is “Conspiring Against the Patriarchy,” and will have a kapihan session, a gartic phone game, and musical and poetry performances by TUA members and allies. “The feminist gartic phone has feminist prompts for the gartic phone games,” said Cruz.
You can register for the event here. It’s open to everyone, whether you’re from the school or not.
In case you need a refresher, TUA was formed in 2019 after two protests against sexual harassment in Ateneo de Manila University. Since then, it’s continued its rallying cry of giving justice to survivors and instituting real change to protect the community, including advocating for survivors to be released from their non-disclosure agreements with the school. “We are, first and foremost, a community of survivors and advocates. We are a community that stands with survivors. We are a community of care,” it says in its anniversary statement.
It also recently opened a call for survivors—in and out of the school—to share their stories to be published on their site and social media channels, as well as an upcoming book. There will also be a public lecture on Oct. 30 via Zoom at 8 p.m. called “Confronting GBV in Pop Culture.” It’s a culmination of their series on depictions of gender-based violence in media. The lecture itself, led by Dr. Ninotchka Mumtaj “Taz” Albano and Bee Leung, will discuss “care, community, and how to forward anti-gender based violence in our everyday physical and discursive spaces.” To register for the lecture, you can check out this link.
