P-pop royalty SB19 and BINI team up for ‘Kabataang Pinoy’ remake

P-pop superstars SB19 and BINI have teamed up for a fresh take on “Kabataang Pinoy.”

When The Itchyworms first released the song for the first teen edition of “Pinoy Big Brother” in 2006, the catchy track became the local youth anthem of the aughts. The reality TV franchise released an updated version of the song for its new generation of fans, with Star Music dropping the collab single at midnight on March 18.

The remake will serve as the official theme song of the upcoming teen edition of “Pinoy Big Brother: Kumunity Season 10.” The track is already Top 2 on the iTunes Philippines chart as of writing—which proves that SB19 and BINI definitely have what it takes to make an old song go viral.

Produced by one of its original writers and composers, Jonathan Manalo, the new “Kabataang Pinoy” hasn’t shed its nostalgic appeal and it’s as rousing as ever. The drum beat remains and both SB19 (Justin, Stell, Pablo, Josh, and Ken) and BINI (Jhoanna, Mikha, Aiah, Colet, Stacey, Sheena, Gwen, and Maloi) lend strong vocals. Heck, Stacey even added her signature whistle notes. The song might have traded its rock band riffs for more melodic hooks, but it doesn’t make it sound any less powerful. And dare we say, there’s even room now for a P-pop dance break.

Compared to previous versions, one of which was a collab between indie pop band Nameless Kids and Manalo, this puts much of the spotlight on the women vocalists in the roster. It’s a detail that elevates it into a worthy anthem of today. Will A’Tins and Blooms get a live performance before Women’s Month ends? Our fingers are crossed.
