Be the next burlesque queen with Beast House’s beginner lessons

Once upon a time, Preen hosted a burlesque-themed anniversary party where we got to watch performances from Burlesque PH. If you’ve been wanting to learn the underrated art, this could be the year when you finally do. Beast House is now offering beginner-level burlesque classes from its resident burlesque mistress and Burlesque PH co-founder, Joyen.

Beast House, the sought-after pole and aerial dance studio in Pasig, will be conducting its burlesque classes every Tuesday at 8 p.m. You can sign up for in-studio training, virtual classes, or private lessons. The hour-long affair costs P600 and you can also opt to purchase the class video recording only to learn the basics.

With Joyen as your teacher, you’re in good hands. Apart from Burlesque PH, she also co-founded Kink PH. She has helped represent Filipino burlesque, BDSM, and aerial arts across the globe by performing at and producing events. Among her critically acclaimed shows are “Ang Pagdidiwata ni Maria Clara,” which is part of her work to enable female sexuality.

Burlesque is a great way to get in touch with your body and to express yourself through empowering performances. Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t synonymous to stripping. Although burlesque today does have striptease elements, you can’t do it without combining theatrics, dance, and wit. It’s an art form that deserves more respect.

Try it out and let yourself feel sexy and badass. As Christina Aguilera once sang, “Show me how you burlesque.”
