Cherie Gil’s movies are up on YouTube for free

One of the greatest kontrabida actresses of all time, Cherie Gil, unfortunately passed away on Aug. 5 at the age of 59. We join the rest of the world in honoring the late actress. She had a long and storied career with diverse roles, from her beginnings as a child actress in the ‘70s to rising to fame in the ‘80s alongside real-life best friend (and frequent bida to her kontrabida) Sharon Cuneta.

In the wake of her passing, Regal Entertainment has posted a number of her classic movies for free on YouTube.

ICYDK, the oldest existing movie studio in the country has its own YouTube channel where it posts clips from and, yes, even the full movies of their classic hits. Want to watch the original “Magkaribal” with Vilma Santos and Alma Moreno? It’s up there.

To celebrate her colorful life and career, the production company uploaded eight of Gil’s movies under the playlist “The Life and Work of Cherie Gil.” This includes Ishmael Bernal’s 1980 film “Manila By Night” (also known as “City After Dark”), which stars Gil opposite Gina Alajar and Charito Solis and was one of her earlier breakout roles.

Here’s hoping other movie studios follow suit. (I’m talking about you, Viva Films. Release “Bituin Walang Ningning” now!)
