Did Markus Paterson diss ex and baby mama Janella Salvador?

Janella Salvador and Markus Paterson have called it quits. The actors and co-parents to baby Jude have just started to talk about the breakup and already netizens are none too happy with the tone Paterson is using to allude to his baby mama.

On the first episode of the “Boys After Dark” video podcast (where the hosts ask each other questions while playing beer pong), which dropped on Sept. 3, Paterson said with emphasis, “Kung may lesson ako sa mga relationships ko, [it’s] never to f*cking date someone in the industry. ’Wag n’yo i-cut ’yan. Seryoso ako diyan.” He later added, “Sa lahat ng mga manonood na batang artista or gustong mag-artista, ’wag kayong mag-date ng ibang babaeng artista.”

Coincidentally, Salvador also opened up about her recent struggles in an interview with newscaster Bernadette Sembrano released on Sept. 3. “Being a single mom—talagang nilalaban ko ’yun,” Salvador told Sembrano. “At the end of the day, alam kong kaya ko naman siya. As much as I love the people around me who are always there to help me, I always want to know na kaya kong gawin.”

While the tone of the video series each actor went on are different (“Boys After Dark” seems to take inspo from “Boys Night Out”), netizens couldn’t help but compare their statements. Several tweets have been made calling Paterson “immature” and “rude” for “badmouthing” the woman who bore his son.

Salvador’s fans also brought up her previous interview with Ogie Diaz in February where she talked about past and present relationship problems, among them men being unable to hold their liquor. “’Yung part na na-trauma ako [in my past relationship], for some reason, is being around drunk people—drunk men,” Salvador told Diaz.

“Alam ni Markus ’yun…We’re working on it pero ayun. Siyempre he’s younger. Hindi niya maiwasan na gusto niya mag-enjoy minsan… Alamin mo lang ’yung limit mo. ’Pag feeling mo hindi mo na kaya, ’wag ka na uminom. I guess that’s his struggle in life,” said Salvador. “Pero ngayon, I think he’s trying na talaga. I can see naman na he really wants to grow and mature na rin. Lalo na’t feeling ko na-inspire din siya kay Jude.” She added that Paterson has a good heart but she wasn’t willing to be a martyr in a relationship either.

Breakup rumors started circulating in June when the former couple stopped posting photos of each other on social media. It wasn’t until August that Salvador said vaguely on “Magandang Buhay” that they were happy “individually” when asked whether they were still together.

It can be difficult when someone airs your dirty laundry in public, especially when the person is now your famous ex. However, it’s not the best public response to straight up diss or speak unkindly about the person you’re co-parenting with. And if your partner is outspoken about an issue that’s close to their heart and brings it up out of concern, maybe a bit of self-reflection is in order. We all have our faults and we’re free to share our thoughts on the internet. But as they say: If you come at the queen, you best not miss.
