Kris Aquino Shells Out Big Bucks to Host Luncheon for APEC First Ladies

It’s Kris Aquino’s world. We just live in it.

It’s been a while since we’ve been reminded of that, since the Queen of all Media has been lying low in the news for quite some time now. However, she’s found just the right opportunity to garner press for herself by announcing that she’s hosting a special luncheon for the First Ladies of APEC—at her own expense.

Instead of announcing it at a press conference, however, Kris decided to keep it low-key by posting about it on Instagram:

“My sisters [and] I are in charge of the special Nov. 19 luncheon for the APEC [first] spouses. We’re not yet a rich country, but we’ve been greatly blessed [with] immense talent & exceptional hospitality,” she writes.

“I’m posting this now to make [it] clear [without] being epal (translation: nosy—ed.), that my sisters [and] I are shouldering the added expense to beautify the luncheon venue, mount the stage, and for the sound system, pianist, etc.,” she continues.

Just in case you get the wrong idea, Kris goes on with a disclaimer: “I was really just waiting to be asked because mahirap naman mag-atrebida, pero siempre we want to show them the best of our country (it’s difficult to be so bold, but of course we want to show them the best of our country).”

Hmmmm. We wonder if the the Kristina Bukid set by designer Ito Kish made of fine bone china, which will be given to the first spouses of APEC as gifts, were also shouldered by the Aquino sisters.

According to Bandera, the Aquino sisters Ballsy, Viel, and Pinky also needed Kris’ help when it came to arranging the lineup of entertainment for the luncheon. Derek Ramsay will join Kris in hosting the event, while Ogie Alcasid, Angeline Quinto, Matteo Guidicelli, and Erik Santos will be performing.

So far, 10 first spouses have confirmed for the luncheon. “Ang mga first ladies na confirmed na darating (The first ladies who have confirmed their attendance include)— Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, tapos Malaysia, Thailand, New Zealand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Colombia.”

Awkwardly, she added: “Type ng mga Pinoy ang Colombia na ‘yan. (Filipinos here are attracted to Colombians.)” Whether she was referring to herself, her brother President Noynoy, or speaking for all of us as a nation is unclear—and we’d honestly rather not know.
