Erik Matti and John Lloyd Cruz to Defend ‘Honor Thy Father’ in Congress Today

In what has turned out as a series of events worthy of its own drama film, the case of whether or not Honor Thy Father should have been disqualified from the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) will be heard out in Congress today.

The hearing comes from a resolution passed by Congressman Dan Fernandez of Laguna. Dan is a cast member of the said movie and the hearing will be attended by producer Dondon Monteverde, director Erik Matti, and lead star John Lloyd Cruz.

In light of this, Erik has taken to his Twitter to invite people to attend the hearing. He is also surprised at the speed by which the issue is being resolved in Congress.

The disqualification issue stems from the fact that Honor Thy Father was screened in another film festival prior to MMFF. The movie was included in last year’s Cinema One Originals festival, an event that was by invitation only and generated no sales for the film.

If only our other political problems were resolved in the same swift fashion, we’d probably get things to move forward. I guess it takes a shaved John Lloyd and an enraged Angelica Panganiban to be heard out in this scene.
