After Lea Salonga penned a lengthy open letter congratulating her on her victory, Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach returned the favor by watching Lea’s performance in the Broadway musical Allegiance, then singing, so to speak, her praises on Instagram:
“Finally watched Allegiance last night! Starring Ms Lea Salonga,” Pia wrote. “@msleasalonga is also Filipina. Superb performance from the whole cast. I had tears in my eyes by the end of the show.”
Last Dec. 31, Lea published an open letter in The Philippine Daily Inquirer telling Pia “You have, with your victory, put a smile on the faces of every single Filipino all over the world and made them feel proud to just be Filipino.”
“If there’s a perfect example of perseverance, training and grit, that would be you,” she continued. “And that is why that blue-and-silver crown sits atop your head.”
She concluded the letter by giving Pia some advice on how to spend her time in New York, such as “seeing as much theater” as she can (and recommending Allegiance, natch); checking out the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Guggenheim; then eating, walking, and of course, having fun.
If this kind of mutual trade of admiration is any indication, we can see these two heading down the path towards celebrity BFF-dom. Remember: it only took a gushing email from Jennifer Lawrence for her to be Amy Schumer’s new BFF, screenwriting partner, and future co-star.
If Pia and Lea team up, who knows what they can accomplish? Pia may not be as talented a singer as Lea, but the girl’s got gumption.
Remember when she sang Britney Spear’s “Baby One More Time?”
I mean, that’s why Lea has been on The Voice this whole time—so she can effectively coach Pia’s singing talent, and the two can go jetskiing like Amy and JLaw, then write their own musical together, and joke around like the next coming of Tine Fey and Amy Poehler on the Golden Globes! (That’s just, like, the rules of feminism!)
We bet James Franco just can’t wait to get in between this celebrity sandwich right now.
Remember this?
Enough, James. Don’t be creepy.
