Filipino Co-Director of ‘Inside Out’ Gets Palace Nod for Oscar Win

Amid all the hype over the recently concluded 88th Academy Awards including that Francis Libiran dress appearing on the red carpet, and Leonardo DiCaprio’s win after six nominations, let’s not forget that one Filipino also won big on the prestigious night.

Ronnie Del Carmen, a native of Cavite and a graduate of University of Sto. Tomas, co-directed the animated blockbuster Inside Out which won Best Original Screenplay for an Animated Film.

On this note, the Malacañang Palace has extended its congratulations to Ronnie. Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma shares in a statement, “His achievement exemplifies the talent and creative genius of the Filipino that continues to reap global recognition.”

It seems like Filipino creative talent has been on a roll so far. Just recently, Lav Diaz’s Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis won the Alfred Bauer award at the Berlin International Festival and got some major kudos from Meryl Streep and Clive Owen.
