Actress Katie Holmes can now add being a director to her resumé as her first feature film All We Had, where she also starred in, recently premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival last Friday. And with this success, she hopes that more women would take the plunge in directing films and be recognized for it.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she shares that she felt intimated when she took the role of director for the film, especially in a male-dominated industry. “I’m incredibly intimated because I’m doing something I haven’t done before,” she says. “As an artist I hope people connect to this story. But as a woman in Hollywood, I hope to do it more, so I hope it has some success because I want to be part of creating stories and choosing the stories that are put out there.”
The film is an adaptation of Annie Weatherwax’s novel of the same title wherein Katie plays a drug and alcohol addict mother to teen co-star LaVie Owen.
Katie also emphasized that actors and those in the film industry in general should “concentrate on the work of the person rather than the gender.”
“If you’re nervous about it, then figure out what you’re nervous about exactly and fix that,” she adds.
And with the film receiving praise from news outlets like The Guardian, we’re definitely keeping an eye on this actress-turned-director.
