WATCH: Franklin Drilon Talks About Federalism and the Death Penalty

Given the many inflammatory statements that has kept Rodrigo Duterte in the headlines of late, it’s easy to forget that we do have other political figures in our country.

On the hot topic of changing up our constitution and the death penalty, Sen. Franklin Drilon reminds us that Rodrigo may act like he will always get his way, but there will always be the power of the legislative branch.

In an interview with Inquirer.net, Franklin talks about the need to review and amend the constitution. When it comes to having a federal system or not, as buzz about changing up our government increases, Franklin says that it is “up to the constitutional conventional delegates to decide.”

When it comes to the issue about reinstating the death penalty, Franklin says he is opposed to it given that “when you send an innocent man to the death chamber, that is a mistake that cannot be corrected.” Despite his stand, he is willing to listen to both sides. As a legislator should, we say. So if our new president is ever reading this, we hope he catches this clip of Senator Drilon and takes down notes on how to talk about important topics to the media, if he ever decides to give a press con again.
