Sorry, Katy Perry and Paris Hilton. You’re Not Supposed to Bring Your Phones to Burning Man

Burning Man Festival, for the uninitiated, is perhaps one of the most original festivals around since its inception in 1986. Unlike the usual ones you see clogging your feed with flower crowns and cropped tops with bikini bottoms, it’s not meant for one looking to boost their #feedgoals.

It’s where Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, and other tech billionaires from Twitter and Uber go to unplug. You’re in the middle of Black Rock Desert where signal, dollars, and societal customs are thrown out for a raw experience with a community made up of the many people from different walks of life who go there. As a friend of mine who frequents the event said, “It’s a place where you take nothing but gives you everything.”

Recent attendees though are Paris Hilton, Katy Perry, Nina Agdal (Leonardo DiCaprio’s current flame), and Cara Delevingne. And what did they do? They ‘grammed up the place.

Not that Instagram and cellphones are totally banned from Burning Man. But posing and posting for the social media isn’t one of the reasons why you should be there.

Looks like they had a lot of fun, at least. I wonder how they managed to do it when I heard there’s not even a portalet around for miles.
