The University of Texas just made all the Beyoncé fans’ dreams come true with a course focusing on the singer and Lemonade.
The course, named “Black Women, Beyoncé, and Popular Culture” is said to “explore the theoretical, historical, and literary frameworks of black feminism, which feature prominently in Lemonade.”
According to the syllabus written by professor Dr. Kinitra D. Brooks, the album will be a guide to analyze the “sociocultural issues that are most prominent in black womanhood through black feminist theory, literature, music, and film.” Literature related to the topic will also be used by the class.
Very fitting considering that Bey has voiced advocated on this many times, and was prominently highlighted in her latest album.
Meanwhile, Dr. Kinitra notes that students don’t have to be die-hard Beyoncé fans to enroll in this class. “I was appreciative to Beyoncé because she got so many folks who wouldn’t normally be interested in black feminism, in West African religious practices, involved in those topics,” she tells Mic.
