Jasmine Curtis Dedicates Best Actress Win to LGBTQ Community

Jasmine Curtis won Best Actress for her role as Alex in Baka Bukas.

The award was given last night during the 2016 Cinema One Originals Festival awards night. In an interview after the show, Jasmine says, “We have already seen many love stories between a man and a woman. What about for those who aren’t straight? This story is for and about them.”

Jasmine beat three other nominees which include Shaina Magdayao, for Lily, Nathalie Hart for Tisay, and Peewee O’Hara for Magdalola at Ang Mga Gago.

Baka Bukas is directed by Samantha Lee and tells of a lesbian love story. The film also won an “Audience Choice” award, and rightfully so. We’ve been seeing a lot of fans raving about it since it premiered last Nov. 16.

In case you haven’t seen the film, then don’t miss the last two screenings before the festival ends tomorrow.

Congratulations, Baka Bukas team!
