Angelina Jolie had a rough year after her divorce from Brad Pitt. But in a Vanity Fair interview, she also talked about her health concerns, including Bell’s Palsy.
The condition is a result of damage to facial nerves, causing one side of Angelina’s face to droop. “Sometimes women in families put themselves last until it manifests itself in their own health,” she said. She also credited acupuncture for her full recovery from Bell’s Palsy.
Apart from that, Angelina also had hypertension and noticed that her skin became drier after getting her ovaries removed in 2015. “I can’t tell if it’s menopause or if it’s just been the year I’ve had,” she quipped. But she’s also become more mindful of her health now, saying that she’s making smart choices for the sake of her family.
Last year, Angelina and Brad split after 12 years of being together. In a previous interview with BBC World News, Angelina said that the divorce was a “very difficult time” in their lives. Nonetheless, she says the children and her are still healing from the events. “I do not want my children to be worried about me. I think it’s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them,” she said. “They need to know that everything’s going to be all right even when you’re not sure it is.”
Angelina’s strength is admirable and we hope to see more of her projects (like Netflix movie First They Killed My Father) in the future.
