Get to Know the Beauty Queens Born From Showbiz Parents

Pageant season is in full swing for the next few months. Miss International and Miss World are happening in November, Miss Universe in January, and so on. We’re also introduced to the new breed of beauty queens competing on the international stage. We also noticed that some of them have celebrity parents too.

This got us thinking: Which beauty queens were born in showbiz families? We did some digging and rounded them up for you.

Winwyn Marquez

Parents: Joey Marquez (actor, politician) and Alma Moreno (actress, politician)

Winwyn is the first Filipina who’ll join the Reina Hispanoamericana pageant later this year. Before competing in Miss World Philippines 2017, she walked a few runway shows and starred in primetime show Mulawin vs. Ravena. We wonder if she’ll also follow her parents footsteps and join politics in the future.

Mariel De Leon

Parents: Christopher De Leon (actor) and Sandy Andolong (actress)

Probably one of the most vocal beauty queens right now, Mariel will represent the Philippines at the Miss International 2017 pageant. In an interview with Inquirer.net, she shared how she’s working hard to get out of her famous parents’ shadow. You can see that with projects like starring in Ang Panday and singing with her group the Opera Belles. (Yes, she sings opera.)

Cloie Syquia Skarne

Parents: Gabby Concepcion (actor) and Jenny Syquia (model, actress)

Cloie, who is KC Concepcion’s half-sister, joined the Miss Sweden pageant earlier this year and won the Miss Earth Sweden crown. She’s helped out with charities like Operation Smile Philippines and also donated hand-me-downs for KC’s Closet. Right now, Cloie is based in Stockholm and has her own jewelry line named Close by Cloie.

Ruffa Gutierrez

Parents: Eddie Guttierez (actor) and Anabelle Rama (actress)

Before Ruffa became (more) famous in It Takes Gutz to Be a Gutierrez, she represented the Philippines in the Miss World 1993 pageant and was crowned as the Second Princess. Today, she continues to host shows and occasionally stars in TV series and films. You can also find her traveling with her two daughters Lorin Gabriella Bektas and Venezia Loran Bektas.

Parents: Bernard Bonnin (actor) and Elvira Gonzales (model)

Charlene is best known for her “High tide or low tide?” response during the Miss Universe 1994 Q&A. After her pageant life, she followed her dad’s footsteps as she starred in series, movies, and hosted lifestyle shows. She’s now married to actor Aga Muhlach and has twins with him.

Mutya Buensuceso

Parents: Tony Ferrer (actor) and Alice Crisostomo (beauty queen, Mutya ng Pilipinas 1970)

As a young girl, Mutya starred in various shows, including That’s Entertainment. She then joined and won the Mutya ng Pilipinas crown in 1990 and placed second runner-up in Miss Asia Pacific 1992. Now, Mutya handles design company BETA with her husband, metal sculptor Jinggoy Buensuceso.
