Taylor Swift Is Being Sued For This Lyric In Her Song

Following the release of two singles from her new album and victory against radio host David Mueller, Taylor Swift is facing another legal battle. According to Refinery29, Taylor is being accused of ripping off lyrics from 3LW’s song “Playas Gon’ Play.” Writers of the track Sean Hall and Nathan Butler brought to light similarities to their lyric, “The playas gon’ play/Them Haters gonna hate” and Taylor’s line “Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play/And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.”

Sean and Nathan, who have worked with Justin Bieber, Pink, and Backstreet Boys, are suing for 20 percent of the song. However, Taylor’s reps aren’t worried. In a statement to People they said, “This is a ridiculous claim and nothing more than a money grab. The law is simple and clear. They do not have a case.”

Taylor does have a strong support system backing her up, which she expressed gratitude for after the sexual assault case. “I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this,” she said. “My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making dontaions in the near future to multiple organizations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves.”
