Cherie Gil Represents the Philippines at This Entertainment Trade Show

MIPCOM, “the world’s market for entertainment content across all platforms,” has started in Cannes and the Philippines is represented. On the first day of the event, Cherie Gil and John Arcilla had an interview with Variety to talk about the anime Barangay 143.

The anime is based on a mobile game called Barangay Basketball. The show will revolve around Bren Park, a basketball player who comes back to the Philippines after a tragedy in his family. He then tries to refocus on himself and find his passion for basketball again.

According to Scout, game development and animation studio Synergy88 will work with Japanese network TV Asahi in producing this show. “Barangay 143 won’t be the first time the country will be portrayed in anime but it certainly might be the first time such a depiction would be made here at home.”

There is no news yet as to when the show will air but will you be tuning in to this anime?
