Gender Reveal Tips and Tricks We Learned from #GutzBabyReveal

Sarah Lahbati and Richard Gutierrez are having one memorable season as a couple. In 2017 alone, they’ve launched the second season of It Takes Guts to be a Gutierrez, announced their engagement (with that gorgeous ring!), and if that’s not enough, they will also be having their second baby boy really soon!

Yesterday, Discovery Primea was dressed up in a “nature minimalist” theme as they gathered family and friends for the baby’s gender reveal. Sarah shared on Instagram that they decided to not know the gender of their baby until the day of the reveal—so yeah, it came as a surprise for everyone. In that light, we took tips as to how they planned their party and maybe you can pick (or use all!) for your very own gender reveal party!

# 1 Choose a neutral theme

Since the point of the party is to get to know the gender of the baby, be sure keep the rest of your theme neutral. Sarah and Richard chose nature, so they worked on a green and white color palette. The venue was dressed up with a lot of white flowers, succulents, leaves hanging from the ceiling, and a few twigs and branches—it actually gave off a really Bohemian vibe.

Their three-tier cake, dessert buffet, and giveaways also carried the same theme. Cute!

# 2 Enlist the help of family members and your doctor

How do you keep the gender a secret? Well, that’s when family members come in handy. Sarah asked help from her sister-in-law Alexa Gutierrez to coordinate with her doctor and to plan how they’ll be revealing the gender. Sarah even quipped that it’s hard to keep secrets from her, so kudos to Alexa.

Speaking of family members, they also got Mond to host the party while nieces Venice Bektas and Lorin Bektas were in charge of the mechanics of every game. Good job, Gutierrez family!

# 3 Give your children a role at the party

Sarah has always emphasized how she gives Zion her time and attention to prepare him to be an elder brother to his future sibling. Just recently, they even went on a quick vacation to Hong Kong with him just to bond and have fun.

In the same light, give your child an active role at the party. In this case, Richard made sure that he and Zion work together to pull the piñata while Sarah popped the balloon to reveal that they’ll be having a baby boy.

# 4 Go ahead and dress up, Momma

Don’t forget, this is your party too. So go ahead and dress up! For the #GutzBabyReveal, Sarah wore a custom dress and cover up from her friend and go-to designer Boom Sason. She wore a comfortable yet flattering mid-length dress paired with a silk drape cover up.

# 5 Play funny and crazy games

Games are such a staple at baby showers and gender reveal parties, so don’t hold back on games to keep your guests at their toes (kidding!). Start off with something light as they arrive by having them take a vote if it’s a girl or boy. Move up to “Guessing the Baby Poop,” (don’t worry, it’s chocolate), blindfold baby feeding game, and even a race to finish drinks from a baby bottle. You can get more creative!
