After months of speculation and excitement, it’s finally here: the first official trailer of American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. It looks exciting, glamorous, and devastating: much like the life of the famed designer whose life was abruptly cut short after being shot by Tom Cunanan.
Penelope Cruz plays Donatella who took over the Versace label after her brother’s death. “I will not allow that man, that nobody, to kill my brother twice,” she declares in the clip. “That nobody” is Tom Cunanan, who went on a bloody spree before murdering Gianni and then killing himself eight days after. Tom is played by Darren Criss while Ricky Martin plays Gianni’s boyfriend Antonio D’Amico.
The series will premiere this January 2018 and is the second season of American Crime Story. The show got lots of recognition for its first season that dramatized the O.J. Simpson trial.
