How Kris Aquino Kept Her Cool After Paolo Duterte Mocked Her

Kris Aquino isn’t one to throw harsh burns at her critics—most of the time, she makes them funny and witty too. So when former Davao Vice-Mayor and presidential son Paolo Duterte mocked her and the EDSA Revolution, she took it gracefully and even invited him to talk face to face, as she learned from her father.

Last week, Paolo spammed his official Facebook page with memes that ridiculed several people like VP Leni Robredo and Sen. Leila De Lima. One post read, “The commemoration of EDSA is a reminder of a broken promise 30 years since.” He then named Kris and told her not to cause drama and to stick to playing with a PS4.

Kris replied via Instagram and offered to meet over coffee or beer. “You have my word hindi ako ‘mag da-drama’ pag nagkaharap na tayo,” (I won’t be “dramatic” when we face each other) she said. “To the best of my knowledge we have never actually met or been personally introduced.” She added that she’s only met Paolo’s youngest sister Veronica Duterte during Noynoy Aquino’s presidential run around eight years ago.

She also mentioned that she’ll accept if Paolo says no to the offer. “I shall respect that. Nasa pamilya nyo ang kapangyarihan at ang buong lakas ng gubyerno at kapulisan ng Pilipinas—kaya sino naman nga ba ako?” (Your family has the full power of the government and police force of the Philippines—so who am I, right?” she said. “I shall await your decision & pray that my effort won’t be snubbed.”

As of writing, Paolo hasn’t responded to Kris’ offer. But good on her for keeping her cool despite the harsh words that were thrown at her.
