Pres. Rodrigo Duterte‘s third SONA is coming up in three weeks (July 23) and it’s reported that they’ve found a director already. And no, it’s not Brillante Mendoza this time.
Presidential communications secretary Martin Andanar said yesterday that they’ve tapped Joyce E. Bernal to direct the event. According to him, Robin Padilla (who’s starring in an upcoming Marawi movie directed by Joyce) was the one who recommended her. “And the President approved it,” Andanar said.
Joyce is mostly known for her drama and rom-com films like Last Night, Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo?, and Camp Sawi. So it’s going to be interesting to see how she’ll frame the SONA. Most likely it won’t have weird camera angles like what Brillante did in 2016. Maybe she’ll add some mellow music and a soft filter to mask the president’s machismo (if that’s even possible).
What do you think? Any guesses on how Joyce will approach the framing of this SONA? Sound off in the comments section below!
