When Ellen Adarna refused to apologize to high school student Eleila Santos for accusing her of being a paparazzi, the latter’s mom filed a cybercrime case against the actress. But there have been three hearings—John Lloyd Cruz was present in one—and Ellen hasn’t shown up to any.
Ellen’s lawyer, Atty. Rebo Saguisag, explained that she’s been missing the hearings because she was due to give birth. The last hearing was held on June 25, two days before she delivered her baby. (Also, yes, this is actual confirmation that Ellen did give birth on June 27.)
“Talaga namang wala kaming dahilan… Sinasabi nila, ‘delay.’ (We really have no excuses. They’re saying, ‘delay.’) Maybe ‘delay,’ for her to be able to have a safe delivery. And in due time… Mahirap i-biyahe, e. (It’s difficult to travel.) It’s a matter of days pa lang, e,” Saguisag told reporters.
Saguisag was referring to Myra Abo Santos’ statement to Inquirer.net last June 26 where she said, “Maybe their play is to delay the case but my quest for justice for my daughter is unwavering.” Ellen’s camp also reportedly told her that the reason for her absence was “due [to] low normal fetal weight as stated in her med cert.”
There’s no news yet on when the next hearing will be but Myra said it will be two weeks from the most recent hearing. So watch this space for more updates.
