A few months ago, news was circulating about the gender pay gap on The Crown. Apparently, Claire Foy was earning less than her co-star Matt Smith.
More recently, reports were saying that Claire was offered back pay from the producers but she is denying this ever happened. According to Refinery29, “Foy denied reports from The Daily Mail that alleged producers agreed to pay the actress $275,000 amid scandal following revelations that Matt Smith had been paid significantly more.”
In an interview with Al Arabiya she talked about how she handled the scandal. “I realized early on that me being quiet about it or me not thinking about it in any way, and not associating myself with it, would be harmful to me and also lots of other people. It’s taught me a lot, and I’m still learning about it.:
Claire will no longer be part of the new season of The Crown but we hope the producers of the show honor equality when it comes to paying the actors involved. She did play an Emmy-nominated role after all.
