Crazy Rich Asians just premiered in the Philippines but we’re already blessed with sequel news. Director Jon M. Chu and Warner Bros. have confirmed that they’re already planning for China Rich Girlfriend.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, development has started after Crazy Rich Asians‘ successful box office opening, garnering $35.3 million in the first five days. Although Warner Bros. hasn’t greenlit the project, they’ve always been open to releasing all three adaptations of Kevin Kwan’s novels.
“We have a plan with Kevin in the next two films,” said producer Brad Simpson.
If you’ve already seen the film and stayed until the credits, you’ve seen that there was a hint on the sequel. The scene shows Astrid Leong (Gemma Chan) stealing glances at Charlie Wu (Harry Shum Jr.), who’s believed to be her first love.
Those who read China Rich Girlfriend know that it’ll revolve around Astrid and Charlie’s love story, as well as Rachel Chu’s search for her father. If you want to read the book before the sequel comes out, you better get on it, stat!
Who’s excited for this?
