READ: Sen. Nancy Binay’s reaction to Mocha Uson’s sign language video

We’re not the only ones upset with Mocha Uson’s latest video wherein she and Drew Olivar mocked deaf people. A statement from Sen. Nancy Binay was posted on Twitter earlier today.

In it she said, “It is disrespectful to the sizeable deaf/mute community who already struggle in airing their concerns and aspirations.” She continued, “Such discriminatory actions set back our efforts to make our society more inclusive by providing a more conducive environment for deaf Filipinos to exercise their right to expression without prejudice.”

Sen. Nancy, who is the co-author of the Filipino Sign Language (FSL) Billalso pointed out that Mocha should remember her place as a public official. “It is paramount that she refrain from mocking the people she serves.”

Lastly, Sen. Nancy wanted everyone one to know that what Mocha did goes against Republic Act 9442, “making fun of persons with disabilities is in violation of the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons.”

Thank you for bringing this to everyone’s attention. We can all learn from this statement.
