It seems like Mocha Uson and Drew Olivar have not learned from their past actions. On Sept. 14, Mocha posted a video on Facebook promoting their DWIZ noontime radio show. In the beginning of the clip she asked Drew, “Mag-language sign ka (Do sign language).” And Drew obliged, proceeding to make fun of it.
For a few seconds, he flails his arms and even mocks the way deaf people sound when they try to talk. As he was doing this, you can hear Mocha laughing in the background.
The comments on the video were mixed but some expressed their disappointment. “Please if you do not know sign language, do not even attempt to use it, even [worse] making fun of the deaf language and culture, and community.”
According to Inquirer.net, Drew posted a lengthy apology but was then deleted. “I am writing this note to express my profuse apologies to the deaf community members and to their loved ones who may have been hurt with my ‘own style of sign language,’ he said.”
However, both have yet to release a statement following the backlash they received. It has already been three days since the video was posted so they should address this soon because their behavior was unacceptable.
